Life has been busy in the science classroom. 5th grade has been studying energy and simple machines. They have been busy building everything from a rollercoaster for a marble to creating a catapult for a marshmellow.

6th graders have been digging into the geologic time line and the creation of fossils. Not sure were we will hang 14 different timelines that are 5 meters in length!

Mendelian genetics and the double helix have taken over the seventh grade. They have become proud surrogate parents of some beautiful dragons.

8th graders are studying Newton's three laws of motion. Their investigations included building hovercrafts and taking the 4th graders for a ride in Neidert Hall on the hovercrafts.

Rocket Lift Off was fabulous. The 5th grade students enjoyed a beautiful day as they launched their newly constructed rockets. Thanks to all of the parents who gave up their time to help with the construction of the rockets and their help with mission control. 5th graders rule!

Monday the sixth grade students will put their mineral knowledge to use as they develop their own brand of toothpaste complete with an advertising campaign. Mr. Foreman has graciously volunteered (or been drafted) to judge the final products. Rumors floating around the science lab indicate that one group is developing a popcorn flavored toothpaste while another group is marketing a beef jerky flavored toothpaste. Mr. Foreman will have a difficult time choosing his favorite!

Monday the seventh grade will continue their investigation on prokaryotic cells by culturing the school.
Tuesday will be a fashion show in 5th grade science as each student talks about their part of the solar system while showing the lovely solar system vest they created.

The 6th grade science class will be joining sixty other schools ranging in latitude from 67.34N (Yukon, Canada) to 37.02 S (Australia) as we all measure the angle of the sun at noon (local time) on the 21st of each month. Tomorrow will be our first measurement.
